Message from the head

Dear Queen's Park Families,

What a treat it was to the sunshine this week! It certainly made those break and lunchtimes for the children a little more special!

Thank you to all of our families for coming in to hear about your children's progress and achievements in school at our parents' evenings last half-term. It is always so lovely to see you on site and the children across the school have so much to be proud of! If you have not seen your child's class teacher yet, please arrange a time to meet with them.

It's another short half-term for us before the Easter break but it's always packed! For the upcoming two weeks, we have:

Our Spring Art Competition Family Gallery - At the end of the school day on Monday 2nd March, once you have picked your children up, we invite you to come in to walk through the school and view the excellent art work that has been submitted for our spring art competition. We will open the doors near the fort and lots of staff will be on hand to guide you on the art trail.

Our World Book Week Celebrations - We have a range of activities going on to celebrate our love of reading including an author visit, secret teacher reading, a dress up day, Drop Everything and Read sessions and lots of story sharing (even more than usual!).

On Wednesday 4th March - We will hold a coffee at the gate session with a focus on reading. Please come and chat to us about how we promote a love of reading, our in school approach to teaching reading and how you can help at home. We will use book week to launch a new challenge and have some exciting reading initiatives about to be launched through our new partnership with the Bookmark Charity.

On Thursday 5th March, we are inviting families to join us for our 'World Book Day Parade' from 2:15pm followed by sharing a story together. During the parade, our English team will award the greatest home-made costumes with a book voucher. Please do join us for this - let's hope the sun shines as we love to complete our parade outside! We will open the Freshfield Gate entrance for this.

This half-term, we are also welcoming some new members of staff. Please come and say Hello to them when you see them on the gates:

Mr. Colburn - Mr. Colburn will be our new residential premises manager. He is an experienced premises manager and engineer by trade. He has been at his last school for over 12 years and comes with great recommendations. David is relocating from Milton Keynes and starts with us on Monday 2nd March.

Sandra Parton - Sandra Parton  will be our new family champion and also starts with us on Monday 2nd March. Sandra is very experienced having worked as an early help hub co-ordinator in Bradford for the past 3 years. Prior to that she worked in the families first team for 25 years.

If you are someone who would like to be more involved in the school in some way, we would love to hear from you. We have roles for volunteering, governance and the QPSA (our parent & teacher association). If you are interested, please drop me an email through admin@queenspark.brighton-hove.sch.uk.

Wishing you all a fabulous weekend.

Best wishes,

Congratulations to Kylo!

Congratulations are in order for Kylo in Year 1 - he’s been invited to two premier league pre-academies! Both Brighton and Chelsea have accepted him which is an outstanding achievement as he's the only 6-year-old from Brighton to be in multiple football academies!

Well done Kylo!
