Computing

At Queen’s Park Primary School, our aim is to prepare our children for a life lived in a technological world. We want them to be confident in using all manners of digital devices, able to keep themselves and others safe and be ready to progress in their education and working lives.

We follow the Teach Computing programme of study. This provides six half-termly units for years 1-6. The program of study ensures that all aspects of the Computing Curriculum are being taught. Most year groups follow the order of the units as they are intended, but teachers are free to move them around to suit their topics. The key units give an opportunity to monitor progression in the key programming skills across the school. The other units cover the other aspects of the curriculum in a less prescriptive way, giving teachers the flexibility to amend the units to suit their topics.

Health and e-safety

Teachers will ensure that all children are taught how to keep themselves safe when using physical computing aides as well as when they are using the computer network and the internet. All classes read, understand and sign a Computing E-Safety agreement in September each year. This agreement is evaluated every year to ensure that it is up to date and relevant in the current technological environment.

Inclusivity

At Queen’s Park Primary School, we will ensure that our Computing programme of study is inclusive of all groups of pupils, is informed by their needs and reflects the diversity of our school, the local and wider community.
