Newsletter Friday 7th March

Message from the head

What a lovely sunny week we have had. It has been a very welcome break from the constant rain and cold and it has meant that we have had wonderful break and lunchtimes with the parachute, dressing up and obstacle courses out!

We have had a great World Book Week with such a wide variety of book characters gracing the school on Thursday. We have had author visits, library trips, partner classes reading to each other and a parade that rivaled Paris Fashion Week. Thank you to you all for supporting your children to create costumes. Well done to Ms. Whitehead for organising so many wonderful opportunities for our children.

Our Spring Art Challenge was a great success with a huge number of entries from across the school. Look out for further house challenges in the future.

It is parents' evening next week. Please do book in to celebrate your child's progress and identify next steps. We will run the parents' evening cafe as usual and will have the eco uniform shop in the main hall. We hope to see as many of you there as possible.

I think we are in for a sunny weekend so I hope you all manage to relax and enjoy.

See you next week.

Our Commitment to a safe and respectful school Environment

A Changing World – A Changing Approach

Recent events in society and stories in the media have highlighted the importance of teaching children about safety, respect, and responsibility. We have also seen an increase in children accessing video games and online content that use inappropriate or violent language, which can sometimes influence their behaviour. While we encourage open discussions, we want to be clear: threatening language or actions have no place in our school, and we will not tolerate them.

At Queen’s Park Primary School, the safety and well-being of our pupils are our highest priority. We want to reassure our families and the wider community that we take a zero-tolerance approach to any form of threatening language or behaviour

What do we mean by an ‘Object that may cause harm’ ?

A weapon is any object that could cause serious harm, whether intended or not. This could include everyday items such as scissors or cutlery if used inappropriately. Our Behaviour and Relationships Policy outlines clear expectations to ensure all children understand how to act safely and responsibly.

Supporting the affected child– Safety comes first

Should an incident occur, our first priority is always the well-being of the affected child. We ensure they feel supported, safe, and listened to, taking appropriate steps to restore their confidence in the school environment

Sanctions and Police Involvement

As part of our commitment to a safe learning environment, any serious incident will be dealt with in line with our policy. Depending on the circumstances, actions may include:

✔ A move to a parallel class

✔ Internal suspension

✔ Fixed-term suspension

✔ Permanent exclusion (in the most serious case)

We also work closely with Sussex Police, who deliver educational talks to our pupils about safety and responsible behaviour. Where necessary, we may involve them directly to reinforce the seriousness of an incident.

Alongside clear expectations and consequences, our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) curriculum plays a key role in developing pupils' understanding of positive behaviour. Through PSHE, we support children’s personal development, behaviour for learning, and social awareness, promoting key attributes such as kindness, respect, resilience and self-efficacy.

By embedding these values into everyday learning, we equip pupils with the skills to navigate challenges, build positive relationships, and make responsible choices.

Our message to our Community

We want to reassure all parents, carers, and our local community that Queen’s Park Primary is a place where children are safe, supported, and valued. Our zero-tolerance stance on threatening behaviour ensures that every child can learn and thrive in a respectful environment.

We encourage families to talk with their children about the importance of positive and respectful interactions, both in person and online. Together, we can continue to build a school community where every child feels safe, confident, and ready to learn.

If you have any questions about our policy, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
