Newsletter Friday 2nd May
Message from the Head Teacher
Happy Friday to our Queen’s Park families!
I wanted to update you on our next steps following the outcome of the secondary school catchment changes. Our Governing Body is currently in the process of submitting an objection to the Schools Adjudicator. Once submitted, the Adjudicator has a duty to thoroughly review the objection and determine whether the council’s changes to the admission arrangements comply with the School Admissions Code. They will then make a decision on whether to uphold the objection and, if necessary, whether the new arrangements should be revised.
This has been a huge piece of work — and even that feels like an understatement! I’d like to take this opportunity to thank two of our fantastic year 5 parents, Lee and Becca, for the enormous effort they have poured into this process in support of our whole school community. Please do pass on your thanks if you see them on the playground. I’d also like to thank our brilliant Beth Williams for her hard work in providing all the data Lee and Becca have needed for the appeal.
The school streets petition has been collated and sent off to the council in support of our children having a safe entrance into school. A huge thank you to all of you who have contributed to this cause.
These are fantastic examples of our community coming together in such a meaningful way. They also serve as a powerful reminder of the impact a united community voice can have. I encourage you to share this with your children, as it reflects the values we promote in school — helping children to understand the importance of using their voices for positive change. I am incredibly proud of, and deeply grateful to, everyone who has written letters, sent emails, or offered their support.
We also have some exciting events coming up! We are thrilled to be holding our first-ever Queen’s Park Primary World Culture Day on Friday 23rd May 2025. The day will be filled with celebrations and learning that reflect the rich diversity of our school, followed by an after-school community event. We would love as many families as possible to attend and contribute to this special occasion. If you would like to share any traditions, songs, games, sports, or anything else during the day, please let us know via the school office email.
Our fabulous QPSA is also busy planning our Summer Fair, which will take place on Saturday 28th June. This vibrant celebration of community is a highlight of the school year — a chance for us all to come together and enjoy fun activities. Please do save the date, and if you’d like to help with any school events, we’d love to hear from you!
Wishing you all a happy, fun-filled Bank Holiday weekend, and I look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday 6th May.
Y5 Social Action Project at the AMEX
On Thursday, year 5 sent a team of 12 children to the AMEX Stadium to work with the Brighton and Hove Albion Foundation team on the conclusion of their Social Action Project. They took part in a number of team building activities and learnt about presenting skills. At the end of the day, they all presented their social action project ideas in front of all the other groups from several different schools. The children really enjoyed the experience and learnt some good presenting skills along the way.
