Newsletter Friday 23rd May

Message from the head

Well that was a blink and you might miss it half-term! We have still packed in lots of opportunities across the half-term including, golf tournaments, year group assemblies, university trips, a beekeeper visit, the children's parade, a visit from the toy museum meeting authors, Amex stadium tours and much more. That's all on top of the fabulous learning our children have been doing in school!

Our year six children have worked incredibly hard and handled their SATs like absolute pros. Their attitudes and determination shone through each day and we are all so proud of them. We know that all of our children are worth far more than a score and their approach to this intense period of time was a wonderful reflection of their characters.

Our first ever World Culture Day was just the perfect way to end this half term. A chance to bring everyone together and celebrate our rich and diverse community. Thank you so much to our QPSA who have come together once again to help us put this day together. Thank you to all of our fabulous volunteers, performers and to all of you for attending. We intend for this to be an annual event for the last Friday of every Summer 1 term and welcome your feedback on the event.

As some of you will be aware, Mr. Roberts has been on secondment with us for three days per week from Varndean. We have absolutely loved having him as our deputy headteacher for the year. From September, Mr. Roberts will return to Varndean but will remain involved with Queen's Park through our work as the Thrive Together Schools Alliance. We are very lucky that Miss Martin will be taking the full-time post of Deputy Headteacher from September 2025. Over the next half-term, you will see her on the gates before and after school as she begins her transition term with us.

I hope that you all have a fabulous half-term together and look forward to seeing you all for our final half-term of the year on the 2nd June 2025.

Message from the new Deputy Head

Dear Queen's Park families,

I am really excited to introduce myself to the Queen's Park Community. My name is Laura Martin and I will be joining the school in September as the new Deputy Headteacher.

I have been lucky enough to spend time in school getting to know staff and pupils over the last few weeks. Seeing the pupils enjoying their learning has been inspiring and I cannot wait to be part of the school community moving forward.

I have worked in Brighton and Hove primary schools for the last 15 years, since moving from London. Having taught across Reception to Year 6, I am enthusiastic about children's development and look forward to being part of this journey for your children.

The diverse, rich and inclusive community that surrounds Queen's Park was what appealed to me most about working here. Having once lived in the nearby area, it is so wonderful to be returning to the community where I spent many hours pushing swings in Queen's Park!

I will be working alongside staff and pupils throughout the Summer Term and look forward to getting to know many of you on the school gate very soon.

Laura Martin

On Sunday 8th June, Queen’s Park Primary School will do a ‘takeover’ of the Queen’s Park Junior Parkrun.

We would like to get as many QPS children there to run, jog or walk the course around Queen’s Park and make it a great morning of physical activity for all.

Meet at the outdoor table tennis table at 8:50am for a 9am start.

We hope to see many of our families there on Sunday 8th June! Everyone is welcome!
