Curriculum Statement


The curriculum in a community school, such as ours, is a statutory requirement. There are several pieces of legislation that shape the curriculum, but the main documents are:

In addition, the DfE have recently reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

We believe that our curriculum meets the statutory legislation and the needs of our community.


Queen’s Park Primary School aims to serve the needs of all of its pupils by providing a balanced and broad curriculum.  Through this our school demonstrates its commitment to ensuring all pupils achieve their full potential and that they make progress in their knowledge, understanding and in their learning.
Our vision is that our children will become lifelong learners and caring , responsible adults in a caring society. Our curriculum promotes equal opportunities, good behaviour, and pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. In addition we help children understand that ability is not fixed – you’re not born smart, you get smart through hard work, commitment and by practising and not giving up.

Our Specific values are that we:-

In addition we:

  • teach children learning behaviours such as resilience, motivation, reflection, creativity and teamwork in order for them to be lifelong learners
  • we teach thinking skills and provide opportunities for philosophical thought
  • We incorporate personal, social , health, citizenship, and emotional education (PSHCE) using the local authority framework
  • ensure all pupils learn and achieve as appropriate to their needs
  • give all pupils’ access to the National Curriculum regardless of gender, race or disability.
  • promote all aspects of pupils’ spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development.
  • equip students with a range of transferable skills to support learning across the curriculum.
  • develop our curriculum in response to cohort needs and national and local change.
  • ensure that Reading, Writing and Mathematics is integral to all aspects of pupils’ learning both within and outside their curriculum.
  • ensure all pupils within the school have a voice that is listened to, and demonstrate how democracy works by actively promoting democratic processes such as a school council whose members are voted for by the pupils
  • teach children about other religions, faiths, cultures and lifestyles in order to promote respect and understanding
  • Plan a curriculum that ensures coverage of the national curriculum using the “Essentials” materials, to develop fluency, mastery and deepening of skills,knowledge and understanding. These materials can be found at
