Mathematics

This week the children have been going over addition. We have been using dienes and the expanded column method. This latter is used when ‘regrouping’ is needed e.g. 28 + 36. This method helps children to make the jump from practical resources to the short column method which they learn in upper Key Stage 2. The children have also been using these methods to solve addition word problems. Next week we will revisit subtraction and the related written methods.

We will be returning to our work on information writing next week. In the lead up to our trip on Friday, we will be changing a text about Queen’s Park Primary to be about another building. We will be focusing on using conjunctions to extend sentences, adjectives to add detail and adverbs as sentence starters.
