This week in Year 2

Hello, Year 2 Parents and Carers.

This week in Year 2 we have been exploring different types of sentences. The children have learnt the difference between a question, command, exclamation, and statement. Perhaps you can ask them for a command or question so they can practice! They have also written some beautiful descriptive sentences using adjectives, nouns, and adjectives. This will support them as they move on to story writing later in the year.

The children have been doing fantastic work in Maths over the past fortnight. They have been practicing counting forwards and backward from a random number and learning about place value. We were very impressed with the amazing board games they designed and played with their friends. As we continue through the term we will be comparing numbers up to 100 and improving our knowledge on counting in tens and ones. We will also introduce addition and subtraction bonds to 20. There is a fantastic game called ‘Hit the button’ which supports learning number bonds and can be played for free on a PC here:

We will also be sending out logins for SumDog, NumBots, and Rockstar Maths this week so your child can practice Maths at home and take part in class competitions if you have an appropriate device.

We are thrilled to have singing assembly back on Wednesdays with Mrs Buxton and it was wonderful to hear all the children singing so beautifully. This was sorely missed during the pandemic!

History off the page is coming to our school next week and we can’t wait to take part in this incredible, immersive experience. Please could you return your forms and payment as soon as possible to the office. Many thanks to those that have already done this.

We are very proud of how the children are settling into their new classrooms and with their new teachers and we thank you for your ongoing support.

Ms Newman, Mrs Hutchings, Mr Brown, Ms Farrelly, Ms Cowey, Ms Kramer and Ms Hubbard.
