This week in year 2

Maths

This week we have been looking at the link between multiplication and division. For example, if we know that 2 x 5 = 10 then we also know that 5 x 2 = 10 and that 10 ÷ 2 = 5 as well as 10 ÷ 5 = 2.

The children have also been exploring word problems where they have had to decide if it is a multiplication or division. The children have used a combination of practical resources, drawing and rote counting to work out the answers.

As always, it is important to continue to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. Soon, we will begin counting in 3s.

English

This week the children have written an information text about Brighton. They have enjoyed learning about the history of Brighton and the various tourist attractions. We have spent some time using fronted adverbials (sentence starters) to vary our sentence structures. You could ask your child to come up with a sentence about Brighton that starts with either interestingly or amazingly.
