Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope you have enjoyed Halloween and Bonfire Night, the children have been very excited!

This week we have been recapping the letter sounds we have learnt over the last two weeks. These are s,a,t,p,i,n,m,d . There are no new sounds this week, but please continue to practise these sounds. As the children learn the sounds they will become more aware of letters in the environment. You could start to read signs with your child and play ‘I spy’.

We have also started reading some common words based on the sounds we have learnt. We have sent the words home for you to continue to practise. You may want to cut them into individual words and put them on the wall for your child to practise reading them quickly (on sight).

We have also been learning about 2D and 3D shapes, and have been looking for shapes in the environment. You could encourage your child to look for shapes around the house and when you are out and about.

Please make sure that you are aware of your child’s Show and Share date. We have a list outside the classroom. Please come and speak to us after school if you need any help with ideas!

As the weather is getting colder, please ensure that your child has a suitable coat with them every day. They may need a hat and gloves, please write your child’s name in every item of clothing. Things go missing very quickly!

As always we are available to chat if you have any questions about anything. Please come and find us after school.

Many thanks,

Miss Myatt and Ms Whitehead
