We have finished the final week of our Cinderella topic and the children had a wonderful time at the ball! The children have really enjoyed learning about this traditional fairy tale. This week we wrote a letter to the Fairy Godmother to ask her to use her magic to bring us wonderful things. This has enabled the children to develop their writing skills and they have been using their phonic knowledge of sounds and the sound mat to help them.
In Maths we have been comparing sizes and discussing weight. We have been using the vocabulary ‘longer, shorter, bigger, smaller, heavy, light, heavier and lighter’. We have been concentrating on counting carefully and matching numbers to the correct amount of items. We have also been practicing correct number formation.
This week in Phonics we have learnt the phonemes ‘qu, y, z’. In your child’s book bag you will find each sound with the action and correct formation. You can the Jolly Phonics song on Youtube or you could ask your child to teach them to you!
In handwriting this week we have been learning the correct formation of the letters j,u,y. We have been dancing at the ‘dough disco’ where we roll, pinch, poke and squeeze playdough to ‘warm up’ our hands before writing. This improves children’s fine motors skills, and they absolutely love it! We have learnt a rhyme to help us remember how to write each letter and the children have been practicing independently in the environment.
Please ensure that your child has a P.E kit in school and that all items of the children’s clothing are named.
Next week we will be moving on to another traditional tale.
