Year 1 have had a super week!
In Maths we have been exploring shapes, what height and length is and even how to measure using unifix and counters! Can your child measure something at home? The children have been really creative when finding things to measure such as our caterpillar cushion, our tables and different books from our reading corner.
Poppy, from the story ‘The Magic Porridge Pot’, popped in as our special guest on Friday! The children loved asking her questions about her family, why she was going into the woods and how it feels to be a hero. Year 1’s are now amazing at punctuating sentences! Most are consistently using capital letters, full stops, finger spaces and understand how to use a question mark. Great work Year 1!
We are working on Phase 5b in our phonics sessions, this involves learning alternative pronunciations and split-vowel digraphs. It is very tricky but the children are enjoying the challenge! For the last two weeks we have had an exciting range of phonics activities to welcome the children in the morning. We have noticed an improvement in their writing and reading from these fun tasks.
Please continue to read with your child at home, we see in school how much they enjoy sharing stories. A little reminder the children should not be bringing in any toys to school, it is not our responsibility if something happens to them. On Fridays the children have an opportunity to show and share, but please only bring in something they have made.
Have a great weekend!
Miss Jamieson and Miss Jackson.
