What a busy start to the final term we have had in Year 1!
In Maths we have learnt to tell the time to o’clock and half past the hour. We learnt that 60 seconds make a minute and 60 minute makes an hour and tried dancing non-stop for 1 whole minute – it’s harder than it sounds!
In English we have been reading The King of Tiny Things. To start with, we covered the book and didn’t reveal the title, the children then made predictions about who this new character might be. Later in the week, The King of Tiny Things wrote a letter asking the children asking about a time they have looked after someone. The responses were so thoughtful and showed what kind children we have in Year 1.
We also watched a fascinating video about the life cycle of a butterfly. The children could not believe their eyes when the caterpillar began eating leaves and shedding skin! They then made some beautiful life cycles and have added sentences to explain what happens at each stage.
Next week is phonic screening week in Year 1. The children are all used to the process and will not be under any pressure what so ever when the screening is carried out.
