What we have been doing in class

We have been recapping addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We’ve been thinking about different methods to solve these calculations and thinking carefully of how we can draw out problems to aid us.

If you want to support your child you can ask them simple addition, subtraction, multiplication or division stories and see if they know how to work it out.

Examples

Addition: Ben had 7 pens. Jasmine gave him 3 pens and Raj gave him 6 pens. How many pens does Ben have now?

Subtraction: I had 14 biscuits. I ate 8. How many do I have left?

Multiplication: There are 6 tables. 5 people can sit at a table. How many people can sit down altogether?

Division: There are 10 children at breakfast club. There are 60 grapes. How many grapes can each child have?
