This week we read a story called “And Tango Makes Three”. This is based on a true story about two boy penguins who live in Central Park Zoo in New York. They loved each other and built a nest together. They saw the other penguins hatching eggs and so they found a rock and sat on it everyday hoping it will hatch. Eventually the zoo keeper found them an egg to adopt and the two daddies raised the baby penguin as their own.
The children wrote character descriptions of Roy and Silo ( the boy penguins). We children learnt about what LGBT (Lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender) means and how families are made up of all sorts of people. We learnt that all you need to make a family is love.
The children also looked at some famous people who are influential in the LGBT community and wrote fact files about them.
